mechanical bull
line dance:1, 2

Anyone visiting the La Cantera during the 5th and 6th of October weekend might have been mistaken for thinking they had suddenly been transported to Nashville, Tennessee. Looking around everyone was dressed from head to toe in authentic cowboy gear; Stetson, necktie and cowboy boots.

Throughout the day there were a number of different activities for youngest cowboys and cowgirls including a tug of war and sack races. Line Dancing classes were provided by The Line Dace Association of Spain. Thanks to Coyote Dax most of us are familiar with the basic steps but it was also possible to learn more sophisticated dances in several of the sessions throughout the weekend.

On Saturday evening there were two concerts by Back to Texas and Rio Seco who played the country favourites, both old and new, traditional and modern.

Sunday morning brought us a show of horses where everyone could get close to the cowboy’s best friend and later, as the grand finale, the Rodeo. This consisted of fighting with a mechanical bull where the most macho tried to stay on, fell off, tried again and laughed as others did the same.

Around the ground there were also stalls and it was possible to buy all the gear the cowboy or cowgirl needed before heading off for a quick burrito or good old fashioned hotdog.

We hope to see you next year. No doubt there’ll be campfire and beans!
